Orestiada is a dynamic new city in Northern Evros, Thrace in Hellas (Greece).

Orestiada also known as Nea (New) Orestiada, Greek: Ορεστιάδα, (Νέα Ορεστιάς), is the north-easternmost, northernmost and newest[ city of Greece and the second largest town of the Evros regional unit of Thrace, a historically Hellenic (Greek) geographical region dating back thousands of years.

New Orestiada was founded by displaced Greek nationals after the Treaty of Lausanne, in which river Evros became the new border of Hellas (Greece). It has a population of about 20,000.

Home to a variety of cultural, historical and traditional groups the city underlines the preservation of Hellenic and Thracean culture. It is also home to its world renowned Cultural and Historical museum, near the center of town.

Orestiada hosts the annual Arda’s festival in Kastanies, Evros about 17 kms north of the city. This “youth meeting point” concert and activities festival has been organized by the city since 1995 and it lasts for days! (There is transportation available to and from most cities in the region)

Water theme parks, banquet halls, numerous hotels, unique gourmet restaurants, special snack and coffee places, bakeries, local food restaurants, retail shops with an abundance of services: professional services, clothing, equipment, mechanics, specialty stores and a weekly local product “open air market” (Laiki agora) are guaranteed to cater to everyone’s dining and purchase preferences.

Orestiada is also home to Democritos University of Thrace’s αgricultural and forestry schools. This University is one of the oldest and largest higher education institutions in the country.

The city has a unique architectural arrangement which makes it really easy to navigate through its avenues and streets! Coupled with its youthful population like its students, servicemen and newly arrived residents, it projects an optimism and a zest for life, rarely found in the European Union!

Its proximity to key destinations like Didymoteicho, Soufli, Thessaloniki, Alexandroupolis, Sofia, Bucharest, Nis and Belgrade, Croatia and the Greek Byzantine “Hagia Sofia” in the city of Constantinopolis makes Nea Orestiada the ideal starting point for a greater “Aimos” peninsula-Southeastern Europe exploration!

MadeinMycountry ΟΡΕΣΤΙΑΔΑ: όπου το χθες συναντά το αύριο!!

Η Ορεστιάδα είναι μια δυναμική νέα πόλη στον Βόρειο Έβρο στη Θράκη. (Ελλας)

Η Ορεστιάδα, γνωστή και ως Νέα Ορεστιάδα, είναι η βορειο-ανατολικoτερη, βορειότερη και νεότερη πόλη της Ελλάδας και η δεύτερη μεγαλύτερη πόλη της περιφερειακής ενότητας Έβρου στην Θράκη, μιας ιστορικά ελληνικής γεωγραφικής περιοχής που χρονολογείται χιλιάδες χρόνια πριν.

Η Νέα Ορεστιάδα ιδρύθηκε από εκτοπισμένους Έλληνες μετά τη Συνθήκη της Λωζάνης, στην οποία ο ποταμός Έβρος έγινε το νέο σύνορο της Ελλάδας. Έχει πληθυσμό περίπου 20.000 κατοίκους.

Εδρα ποικίλων πολιτιστικών, ιστορικών και παραδοσιακών συλλογων, η πόλη υπογραμμίζει τη διατήρηση του ελληνικού και θρακικού πολιτισμού. Φιλοξενεί επίσης το παγκοσμίου φήμης Πολιτιστικό και Ιστορικό Μουσείο, κοντά στο κέντρο της πόλης.

Η Ορεστιάδα φιλοξενεί το ετήσιο φεστιβάλ Άρδας στις Καστανιές Έβρου, περίπου 17 χλμ. βόρεια της πόλης. Αυτό το φεστιβάλ συναυλιών και δραστηριοτήτων «σημείο συνάντησης νέων» διοργανώνεται από την πόλη από το 1995 και διαρκεί μέρες! (Υπάρχει διαθέσιμη μεταφορά από και προς τις περισσότερες πόλεις της περιοχής)

H πολη εχει θεματικά πάρκα νερού, αίθουσες δεξιώσεων, πολυάριθμα ξενοδοχεία, μοναδικά γκουρμέ εστιατόρια, ειδικά σνακ και καφέ, αρτοποιεία, και εστιατόρια τοπικού φαγητού.

Οπως επισης εχει καταστήματα λιανικής πώλησης με πληθώρα υπηρεσιών: επαγγελματικές υπηρεσίες, ένδυση, εξοπλισμό, μηχανικους, εξειδικευμένα καταστήματα για το σπιτι και μια εβδομαδιαία «υπαίθρια αγορά» (λαικη) τοπικών προϊόντων. Ολα αυτα εγγυωνται ότι θα καλύψουν τις προτιμήσεις φαγητού και αγορών όλων!

Η Ορεστιάδα φιλοξενεί επίσης τις γεωργικές και δασικές σχολές του Δημοκρίτειου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης. Αυτό το Πανεπιστήμιο είναι ένα από τα παλαιότερα και μεγαλύτερα ιδρύματα τριτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης στη χώρα.

Η πόλη έχει μια μοναδική αρχιτεκτονική διάταξη που καθιστά πραγματικά εύκολη την πλοήγηση στις λεωφόρους και τους δρόμους της! Σε συνδυασμό με τον νεανικό πληθυσμό της, όπως τους φοιτητές, τους στρατιωτικούς και τους νεοαφιχθέντες κατοίκους της, αποπνέει μια αισιοδοξία και ένα πάθος για ζωή, που σπάνια συναντώνται στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση!
